‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Reveals Years Of Bullying And Harassment

Outlander star Sam Heughan posted a lengthy statement on his Instagram story and Twitter detailing “six years of constant bullying, harassment, stalking and false narrative” since joining the Starz drama in 2014.

In the post, the Scottish actor said he’s been falsely accused of “manipulating fans, being a closet-homosexual, trying to mislead or exhort fans for money and disregarding coronavirus advice.” The latter comment has to do with Heughan’s decision to stay in Hawaii, where he went for vacation before everyone began sheltering at home.”I’m safe, isolated, putting no one at risk and am not a burden to the locals,” he wrote.

Heughan’s decision to address those who have subjected him and his circle of friends and family to “personal slurs, shaming, abuse, death threats, stalking, sharing of private information and vile, false narrative.” Heughan added, “I am at a loss, upset, hurt and have to speak out. It’s affecting my life, mental state and is a daily concern … I’ve never spoken about it because I believe in humanity and always hoped these bullies would just go away.”

Hours after Heughan’s reveal, the hashtag #WeStandWithSam began trending, with multiple Outlander fan accounts on social media sharing their support for the 39-year-old.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott Says One Police Officer Killed, Two Injured During ‘Ambush’

A police officer was killed and two others were injured in what authorities described as an “ambush” in San Marcos, Texas. Officials said the shooting took place after officers responded to a 6:05 p.m. domestic disturbance call at an apartment complex, the San Marcos Police Department said in a statement. “During the course of their response, the suspect ambushed the officers with a rifle,” it said. A suspect apparently died for a self-inflicted gunshot, police said.

The Executive Director of Combined Law Enforcement Associations of Texas, Charley Wilkinson, said in a tweet that one of the injured officers was in critical condition. San Marcos police said both underwent surgery at a hospital.

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said in a statement that the violence “is a somber reminder of the service and sacrifice our brave men and women in law enforcement make everyday to keep us safe.”

16 Killed In Nova Scotia Shooting Rampage

Sixteen people, including a police officer, are dead in Nova Scotia following the worst shooting rampage in Canadian history. The Royal Canadian Mounted Police said Sunday that the suspected shooter was also dead,  identified as 51-year-old Gabriel Wortman. Police said he was believed to be wearing an RCMP uniform at one point, but he was not employed by RCMP. The motive is unknown.

The RCMP said police responded to a firearms incident in Portapique after multiple 911 calls Saturday night. Officers located several victims inside and outside the suspected shooter’s home, but there was no sign of the suspect at first. The suspect was eventually found on Sunday and the RCMP confirmed he is now dead.  RCMP Constable Heidi Stevenson, a 23-year veteran of the RCMP,  was killed in the shooting, police said.

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau tweeted, “Our hearts go out to everyone affected by the shooting in Nova Scotia. To the Portapique community, we’re keeping all of you in our thoughts. And on behalf of all Canadians, I want you to know that we’re here for you – and we’ll be here for you in the days and weeks ahead.”

President Trump Announces New Guidelines For Reopening Individual State Economies

On Thursday, President Trump announced the White House’s guidelines for beginning to reopen the country, something he says was reached with input from medical experts and scientists. “We are not opening all at once, but one, careful step at a time,” Mr. Trump said, adding that states will reopen their economies at different times.

On a call with governors Thursday afternoon, the president told them, “You’re gonna call your own shots.” The plan calls for higher-risk populations — older Americans and those with certain underlying health conditions — to remain to shelter in place for the foreseeable future, while some Americans might begin to go back to work. Governors ultimately have the authority to decide when to lift or continue their shelter-in-place and other mitigation measures.

Dr. Anthony Fauci said the plan is not a “light switch,” and changes will be gradual. Public health officials have said that social distancing measures are having an impact on slowing the spread of the coronavirus but are encouraging Americans to remain vigilant in their efforts. Dr. Deborah Birx, the White House coronavirus response coordinator, told reporters, “I will just remind the American people again: This is a highly contagious virus. Social gatherings, coming together, there’s always a chance that an asymptomatic person can spread the virus unknowingly.  No one is intending to spread the virus. We know if you are sick, you will stay home. But to all of you that are out there that would like to join together and just have that dinner party for 20: Don’t do it yet.”

Seven Midwest States Join Together To Work On Reopening The Economy

Seven Midwestern governors announced on Thursday that they will coordinate on reopening their state economies amid the coronavirus pandemic, following similar agreements made in the Northeast and on the West Coast. This latest agreement includes Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Wisconsin, Minnesota and Kentucky.

“We look forward to working with experts and taking a fact-based, data-driven approach to reopening our economy in a way that protects families from the spread of COVID-19,” the governors said in a statement. “Our No. 1 priority when analyzing when (is) best to reopen our economy is the health and safety of our citizens.” The Midwestern alliance joins pacts on the West Coast and in the Northeast that were announced this week. All together, the 17 states covered by the partnerships are home to nearly half of the country’s population.

“Phasing in sectors of our economy will be most effective when we work together as a region,” said the governors, who include five Democrats — Michigan’s Gretchen Whitmer, Wisconsin’s Tony Evers, Illinois’ J.B. Pritzker, Minnesota’s Tim Walz, Kentucky’s Andy Beshear — and two Republicans, DeWine and Eric Holcomb of Indiana. They stressed it does not mean every state will take the same steps at the same time. “Close coordination will ensure we get this right,” said Evers, who on Thursday extended Wisconsin’s stay-at-home order until May 26.
