‘Jeopardy!’ And ‘Wheel of Fortune’ Will Tape Without Studio Audiences Amid Coronavirus Concerns

“Jeopardy!” and “Wheel of Fortune” will tape without studio audiences in response to the ongoing virus outbreak. The move is being taken out of an abundance of caution given the spread of the new coronavirus in numerous communities in the United States and abroad.

The two popular gameshows are the latest television project to shift plans due to the new coronavirus The shows tape months in advance, so the presumably quieter shows will not immediately be noticeable to viewers at home. Both are filmed at a studio in Culver City, California.

Former Presidential Candidate Pete Buttigieg To Guest Host “Jimmy Kimmel Live”

Former Democratic presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg is coming to late-night TV and will host “Jimmy Kimmel Live” tonight, March 12.

“We’re lining up a great slate of guests,” Buttigieg said. “Patrick Stewart is coming on, so we are very excited about that.” He also said that he hopes he’ll have some help penning the monologue that night, saying, “Hopefully some funnier minds than mine will be doing some writing for that. I think it is going to be fun. The thing about running a presidential campaign is you will have been focused on one thing and one thing only. It is nice to be able to zoom out and come back at life.”

Since dropping out of the presidential race on March 1, Buttigieg has been traveling the country with his husband. The former mayor of South Bend, Indiana said he is “going to have some fun” before pursuing his next job. Buttigieg has endorsed former Vice President Joe Biden to be the 2020 Democratic presidential nominee.

Bernie Sanders And Joe Biden Cancel Ohio Rallies Due To Coronavirus Concerns

Bernie Sanders and Joe Biden have both canceled their campaign rallies planned for Tuesday night in Ohio, due to concerns about the coronavirus. These cancellations are the first on the 2020 presidential campaign trail, as concerns about the outbreak mount.

Sanders’ campaign communications director Mike Casca said in a statement: “Out of concern for public health and safety, we are canceling tonight’s rally in Cleveland. We are heeding the public warnings from Ohio state officials, who have communicated concern about holding large, indoor events during the coronavirus outbreak.”

Kate Bedingfield, deputy manager for the Biden campaign, said in a statement: “In accordance with guidance from public officials and out of an abundance of caution, our rally in Cleveland, Ohio, tonight is cancelled.”

A debate scheduled for Sunday in Phoenix between Sanders and Biden is currently scheduled to proceed, but the Democratic National Committee and CNN, which is hosting the debate, have said they are in contact with local officials and will follow their guidance.

Appeals Court Rules Department Of Justice Must Provide Congress With Mueller Information

An appeals court has ruled that the Justice Department has to provide Congress with secret grand jury evidence from former Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.

In a 2-1 decision, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit ruled in favor of House Democrats who are suing to access redacted material from the Mueller probe into Russian interference in the 2016 election as they continue to investigate President Trump, upholding a lower court ruling.  Previously, Judge Beryl Howell ruled in October that the Department of Justice needed to hand over the grand jury material to Congress. Since then, President Trump was acquitted in the Senate’s impeachment trial.

Tuesday’s decision on the grand jury information ‘softens the blow’ for Democrats of the court recently deciding not to force former White House counsel Don McGahn to testify before Congress. However, the ruling is ‘unlikely to be the final word’ on this issue, as it ‘can be appealed to the full court or to the Supreme Court.’

‘Beauty And The Beast’ Prequel Coming To Disney+

Josh Gad and Luke Evans are expected to star in a Beauty and the Beast prequel TV series to Disney+. Eddy Kitsis and Adam Horowitz, the creators of the ABC series Once Upon a Time, are teaming up with Evans and Gad (who starred as Gaston and LeFou, respectively) in the 2017 live-action remake.

Sources say that the currently untitled series will be a “six-episode musical event,” and that composer Alan Menken — who worked on both the original animated feature and the live-action version — should be involved as well. The series is said to take place “well before the events of the film,” giving audiences a wider look at the world of the movie.

Kitsis, Horowitz, and Gad will all serve as showrunners and write the scripts, while the three will all executive produce alongside Evans.

Dow Jones Plummets 2,000 Points Amid Coronavirus Concerns; Sparking Brief Halt In Trade

The Dow Jones Industrial Average ended Monday’s trading session down more than 2,000 points – or 7.8% – amid Coronavirus fears and the steep sell-off in crude oil. The S&P 500 fell 6.63% and the Nasdaq slipped 7.29% by the time trading closed.

Markets plunged early in the trading session, forcing a temporary halt to trading. The 15-minute halt was caused by an automatic circuit breaker safety mechanism that kicked in to prevent a free fall after the S&P 500 plunged by more than 7% within minutes of markets opening.

Monday’s market plunge came after OPEC talks fizzled over the weekend and Saudi Arabia slashed oil prices, triggering a price war and sending U.S. crude oil prices plunging by more than 25% — fanning even more uncertainty among investors. Moody’s Investor Services also issued a revised economic outlook report Monday, warning that “global recession risks have risen” and “several unknowns make for a highly unpredictable environment.”

The yield on the 10-year Treasury note dropped to an unprecedented low of 0.408%, a possible signal that investors are expecting a recession. Among the worst performers Monday were Dow Inc (which fell more than 21%), Chevron Corp (which fell more than 15%) and Caterpillar Inc (which shed more than 14%).

Two U.S. Service Members Killed During Anti-ISIS Operation In Iraq

The United States military said in a statement on Monday that two U.S. service members were killed by “enemy forces” Sunday, while advising and accompanying Iraqi Security Forces during a mission to eliminate an ISIS terrorist stronghold in a mountainous area of north-central Iraq. The names of the service members are being withheld pending next of kin notification, in accordance with U.S. Department of Defense policy, the statement said.

The two Americans killed were Marine Raiders partnering with Iraqi Special Forces in a large operation against ISIS, an unidentified source familiar with the operation told Marine Corps Times. No other information was immediately released.

It’s the first U.S. troops killed in Iraq this year. The last American to be killed in action in Iraq was a U.S. Marine in August 2019.

Fox Cancels ‘Almost Family’ After One Season

The Fox drama Almost Family will not be back for a second season. The series, which starred Timothy Hutton as a fertility doctor who used his own sperm to inseminate patients, has been canceled following its 13-episode first season. After premiering in October, the series moved from Wednesdays to a Saturday time slot in mid-January and wrapped Feb. 22.

Based on the Australian series Sisters, Almost Family also starred Brittany Snow as one the children of Hutton’s character who got to know some of her half-siblings, including ones played by Megalyn Echikunwoke and Emily Osment.

Almost Family was met with largely negative reviews, and poor ratings.  News of the cancellation comes on the heels of Hutton being accused of raping a 14-year-old girl in Vancouver, Canada, in 1983. Hutton has vehemently denied the allegations.

‘Charlie And The Chocolate Factory’ Series Is Coming To Netflix

Netflix announced director Taika Waititi is set to write, direct and executive produce two animated series based on Roald Dahl’s “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory” for Netflix. The first series from Waititi will center around the characters in “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.” The second, titled “Oompa-Loompas,” will focus on the characters of the same name who work in the chocolate factory. Netflix said that it plans to “retain the quintessential spirit and tone of the original story while building out the world and characters far beyond the pages of the Dahl book for the very first time.”

Dahl’s book was first adapted for the screen in 1971, with Gene Wilder starring as Willy Wonka. Director Tim Burton remade the movie in 2005 with Johnny Depp in the lead role.

Waititi directed the Oscar-nominated “Jojo Rabbit” and is also set to direct Marvel’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” which is expected to be released in November 2021.
