‘Black Widow’ Release Date Delayed Due To Coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic is closing movie theaters and affecting release dates, and Disney has officially announced that it’s postponing the scheduled spring release of Black Widow on May 1st, starring Scarlett Johansson. No new release date have been announced yet.

The news comes after the CDC released new guidelines calling for the elimination of large public gatherings for the next eight weeks.  It also remains to be seen how Black Widow’s push might affect other scheduled projects in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Marvel has more than a dozen films and Disney+ TV shows in the works, with release dates scheduled as far out as 2022. The Eternals is set to hit theaters in November, but with Black Widow’s release date moved and the pandemic halting filming around the world, it may cause reshuffling of many release dates.

5.7 Magnitude Earthquake In Utah Leaves Thousands Without Power

A 5.7 magnitude earthquake hit near Salt Lake City on Wednesday, temporarily shutting down a major air traffic hub and leaving thousands without power. There were no reports of injuries. The quake damaged the spire and statue atop the iconic Salt Lake Temple. The epicenter was just southwest of Salt Lake City, between the airport and Great Salt Lake. It was felt by about 2.8 million people who were already confined to their homes due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Gov. Gary Herbert said, “This is extremely bad timing, because we already have the coronavirus issue going on right now causing a lot of anxiety.” Planes were diverted from Salt Lake City International Airport and the control tower and concourses were evacuated. Cargo and non-commercial flights resumed hours later, but commercial flights were delayed into the afternoon..

People reported feeling the quake in the neighboring states of Colorado, Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada. About 73,000 homes and businesses lost electricity in the Salt Lake City area, but power was quickly being restored in some areas, said utility Rocky Mountain Power.

President Trump Signs $100 Billion Coronavirus Relief Bill Ensuring Sick And Emergency Leave

President Donald Trump signed an economic relief bill to help combat the coronavirus pandemic.  The bill will ensure free testing and paid leave for certain workers, hours after the Senate passed the measure on Wednesday. Lawmakers overwhelmingly voted 90-8 in favor of the “phase two” stimulus measure. The Joint Committee on Taxation estimates the bill will cost $100 billion.

The economic relief bill ensures free COVID-19 testing, bolsters unemployment insurance, increases spending on health insurance for the poor and adds $1 billion in food aid. The agreement includes paid sick days for some employees, as well as three months of paid emergency leave throughout the course of the coronavirus crisis. To help offset the costs for employers, businesses would be reimbursed for some of these costs through tax credits. However those businesses with more than 500 employees are exempted from offering their employees paid sick leave or family leave under the bill.

Congress is already working on another relief package, with Sen. Mitch McConnell vowing earlier in the week that the Senate will ensure a third relief package is on the president’s desk shortly.
